En ce moment, sur le sol russe, se déroule la Coupe du Monde de football 2018 de la Fifa.
En ce moment, sur ce même sol russe, un cinéaste est entre la vie et la mort.

Agé de 41 ans, père de deux enfants, il a débuté une grève de la faim illimitée le 14 mai 2018, un mois tout juste avant l'ouverture de la Coupe du monde.

Il s'appelle Oleg Sentsov.
Vous connaissez sans doute son nom, mais peut-être pas son histoire.

Oleg Sentsov est né ukrainien, à Simferopole, en Crimée, où il vivait avec sa femme et ses enfants jusqu'au 11 mai 2014, jour de son arrestation par le FSB, les services secrets russes.

Après un premier long-métrage encensé par la critique et primé dans de nombreux festivals internationaux, Oleg Sentsov préparait son deuxième film "Rhino", lorsqu'ont éclaté les premières manifestations pro-euroépennes en Ukraine, en novembre 2013. Cinéaste et citoyen engagé, pro-européen convaincu, il a reporté le tournage de son film pour participer activement au mouvement Euromaïdan. N’acceptant pas l’annexion russe de la Crimée, il a manifesté et il est allé livrer de la nourriture à des soldats ukrainiens affamés et encerclés par les forces pro-russes. Il avait finalement décidé de tourner son nouveau long métrage cet été-là, l'été 2014. Mais en sortant de chez lui, le 11 mai de cette même année, Oleg Sentsov a été enlevé puis torturé par le FSB pendant trois semaines, avant de réapparaître non plus en Crimée, mais au fond d'une prison russe...

Malgré les protestions d'Oleg Sentsov, qui crie aux juges qu'il n'est pas un "serf", et qu'ils ne peuvent pas "l'annexer" comme ils l'ont fait avec la terre, il est considéré et jugé comme citoyen russe, et condamné à 20 ans d'emprisonnement dans un camp de travail forcé, après un procès qualifié de "stalinien" par Amnesty International.

Depuis le 14 mai 2018, Oleg Sentsov a débuté une grève de la faim illimitée pour demander la libération de tous les prisonniers politiques ukrainiens emprisonnés comme lui en Russie.

Si la Communauté européenne et internationale ne fait rien de plus, Oleg Sentsov va mourir. On a volé son pays, changé de force sa nationalité pour lui faire prendre celle de ses agresseurs, on l'a envoyé pour vingt ans au fin fond d'un trou glacial, au bord du cercle arctique. Et l'Europe, l'Europe dont il rêvait au point de se battre pour que son pays en fasse partie, l'Europe, a laissé faire.

Si rien ne se passe, Oleg Sentsov va mourir. Comme il le dit lui-même : sa vie est la seule arme qui lui reste pour résister et défendre ces soixante-dix ukrainiens que Poutine a enlevé à leurs familles et à leur pays, pour la seule raison qu'ils n'étaient pas d'accord avec sa politique expansionniste, imposée par la violence.

Cet homme qui se bat au nom de valeurs que nous ne pouvons que partager, ne peut pas disparaître. Ce serait une terrible perte pour l'humanité et un nouveau terrible revers pour l'Europe.

Si Oleg Sentsov mourrait aujourd'hui, c'est non seulement Vladimir Poutine, qui serait un peu plus éclaboussé, mais la France, l'Allemagne et l'Europe tout entière qui seraient entâchées de son sang.

Aussi nous conjurons l'Europe et plus largement le reste du monde d'utiliser tous les moyens en leur possession pour obtenir la libération immédiate d'Oleg Sentsov.

The ukranian Oleg Sentsov was born in Simferopol, Crimea, where he lived with his wife and children until 11 May 2014, the day of his arrest by the FSB, the Russian secret service.

After his first critically acclaimed feature film, which won awards in many international festivals, Oleg Sentsov was preparing his second film "Rhino" when the first pro-European protests broke out in Ukraine in November 2013. A filmmaker and committed pro-European citizen, he postponed his film in order to actively participate in the Euromaidan movement. Refusing the Russian annexation of Crimea, he took to the streets and delivered food to hungry Ukrainian soldiers surrounded by pro-Russian forces. He finally decided to shoot his new feature that summer, the summer of 2014. But as he left his home on May 11 that year, Oleg Sentsov was kidnapped and tortured by the FSB for three weeks, before reappearing not in Crimea, but the depths of a Russian prison ...

Despite the protests of Oleg Sentsov, who shouted to the judges that he was not a "serf", and that they could not "annex" him as they did with his land, he was treated and tried as a Russian citizen, and sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment in a harsh labor camp, after a "Stalinist" trial, to cite Amnesty International.

As of 14 May 2018, Oleg Sentsov has started an indefinite hunger strike to demand the release of all Ukrainian political prisoners incarcerated like him in Russia.

If the European and international community does nothing else, Oleg Sentsov will die. His country was stolen, his nationality forcibly changed to that of his aggressors, and he was sentenced to twenty years at the bottom of an icy hole on the edge of the Arctic Circle. And Europe, the Europe he dreamed and fought for his country to join, that same Europe let him go.

If nothing happens, Oleg Sentsov will die. In his words, his life is the only weapon he has left to resist and defend the seventy Ukrainians that Putin holds hostage from their families and country for the sole reason that they do not agree with the expansionist policy he enforces with violence.

This man, who fights in the name of values ​​that we share, can not disappear. His death would be a terrible loss for humanity and another terrible setback for Europe.

If Oleg Sentsov dies today, it is not only Vladimir Putin but France, Germany, and Europe as a whole that would be stained with his blood.

So we call on Europe and the rest of the world to use every means in their possession to obtain the immediate release of Oleg Sentsov.
